Things I’m Loving Friday {21}

Another week has come and gone! I feel like before I know it the school year will be over and I’ll be sayin‘ he-llooooo summer vacation! Although I probably shouldn’t get too ahead of myself. I’m looking forward to getting out this weekend for a BBQ and going away party for our friends moving to New Zealand!

For right now, let’s talk about some of the highlights of my week. Be sure to share yours in the comment section! I love reading responses.

This video on how to tie a scarf into a vest

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C_gKtpo4_Ag

I am a fan of all things that have double-duty and can be used for more than just one singular thing. If you’ve not seen this video on how to turn your regular daily scarves into cute vests then take a look! It’s great for transition into spring clothing and I have an incredible number of scarves so I am sure I will be using this technique more than once.

Snack I’m loving – praline nut mix

I picked these up at the local Shoppers and my oh my! They’re so yummy and hit my sweet tooth perfectly.

Run I’m (especially) loving this week

With the temperatures rising, I felt the desire to run to the beach and check it out this week. The views did not let me down and it’s so worth it to make the long trip there to snap some pictures. Even though it’s still partially frozen! I Cant wait to be able to jump in there – HA! A little early to be thinking that…

Workout of the week – body burner

Looking for an all over body workout to get done whim bam boom? (My language for fast) try this, you will feel as though time flies because transitions are so quick.

 Sister visit

Do these ever get old? No. But I had to post it because my favourite (& only) sister came to town with her new puppy Willow! It was outrageous having three hyper dogs in our home and so very entertaining. We also got out and enjoyed a brunch at a local restaurant. Deeeelish.

I came across this on thought catalogue It’s a must read. A purely honest eye opener about how we need to shift our state of mind when it comes to being critical of our bodies.

Now I am off to enjoy some family play time!

Simply Organic Products and mint cocoa smoothie

Disclaimer: This post is 100% my opinion and view on the products alone. While I did receive free merchandise on behalf of the company, I am not receiving compensation for having affiliate links posted on my blog.

Simply Organics

I was so thrilled to have the company offer to send me some free merchandise! While I am not the best cook I know by any means, it is certainly something that I enjoy. I am always looking to try out new recipes.

What I received in the mail:

Simply Organic chili powder
cinnamon powder
crushed ginger root powder
peppermint flavouring
vanilla non-alcoholic flavouring

I have utilized Simply Organic’s spices in my recipes before. I have to admit, I’m pretty picky when it comes to my seasonings. I feel the best resource for them are to get them from their most natural state. However, that’s not always a viable option. These products are the next best thing. None of the spices go through any irridation!

The cinnamon in particular was sweeter than what you would normally get from your typical grocery store (which I love!) Everything was so, so fresh and I liked the glass bottles that they came in to ensure freshness for a long time.

Also, one of my favourite things about Simply Organic is the fact that 1% of all sales go to support organic farming ๐Ÿ™‚

If you go to their website here, you can purchase any products, as well as look up some great recipes that suit any of your cravings!

When I had opened the box and noticed the peppermint flavour, I was a little confused as to how to utilize it. So, I decided to look up some recipes (HE-LLO Pinterest). One that caught my eye: peppermint cocoa smoothie.

Yes, please!

Ingredients:

1 banana
handful of ice
1 TB cocoa powder (I use natural unsweetened Hershey’s)
1 packet of stevia
1/4 tsp Simply Organic peppermint flavouring
1/4 tsp Simply Organic vanilla flavouring
3/4 cup unsweetened Almond milk

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in your blender, and blend, blend, blend!
Then enjoy.

Kind of reminds me of Junior Mints!

Mint chocolate is one of my top favourite flavours. I am so, so happy I discovered this smoothie because I am almost certain I will be consuming it daily!

Eats n treats

I’m layin’ out for you a typical meal plan in the life of Jamie! I don’t count calories ever, I just try my best to eat foods that make me feel good and that I know are healthy.

7:00 AM – wake up, breakfast time! GRAPEFRUIT as per usual. With a side of some random mushy yogurt goodness with some flax and almond granola and strawberries.

12:00 PM – LUNCH TIME for me. Finally caught a break from work. Looks like a left over burger from last night and a salad! These burgers were homemade, the juiciest most delicious burgs of life. Oh and a piece of kinders chocolate that was staring me down …

3:30 PM – Always starving as soon as I get in the door from home. I tend to open the cupboard and fridge and scavenge for whatever good snacky thing I can find. It usually ends up being the same things… Crackers, apple, nuts… Today I opted for some cut up carrots, brocollli and some of this yummy sour scream Salsa Fiesta dip (Jamie APPROVED!)

6:30 PM – dinnaaaa time. My favourite time. Tonight = BBQ Chicken (we sure have been utilizing it as much as possible) with some rice and steamed asparagus on the side.

Night time snack – popcorn with some kernels seasonings. I have this almost every night and I kid you not. Tonights seasoning was KETCHUP!

4 Ingredient cookie

So I’m in the middle of my day at work right now, having a little bit of a break.

In the high school we are working on a kindness campaign to spread as much joy and happiness in the community and amongst the schools as possible. A part of this campaign is baking up a storm in the school’s kitchen with the junior high students and dispersing them amongst the classrooms with positive messages.

One particular baked good that we made turned out being one of my new favourites. And it’s SO simple to boot. It’s a 4-ingredient cookie (my kinda cookie!) So I thought I’d share the recipe. You likely have these ingredients in your cupboard already so don’t be afraid to go home and give these cookies a whirl, they’re good for sharing (and to consume on your own hehehe) Plus you shouldn’t feel guilty having a couple of these because they are uber clean and healthy. Perfect combination I’d say!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 4 tablespoons of peanut butter (I prefer all natural)
  • 1 tablespoon egg whites

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well blended together, use the mixture to form round cookie balls and place on a baking sheet
  • Bake for 16-18 minutes
  • Let cool for 10 minutes or so
  • Eat them up! Or hide them away so they don’t magically disappear from family, friends, roommates..

Keep in mind you can also add anything else to the mix! Nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, it’s all up to you and your taste buds!

Yes, they are as good as they look.

Things I’m Loving Monday 3

Sooo last night was a quiet night in with some friends. It was a good Sunday night! We watched the comedy ‘Hit and Run’ with Bradley Cooper!

hit-and-run-poster-2

It was funny, but not as good as I was hoping. We also shared some popcorn yummy ๐Ÿ™‚

Work has settled down (so far) this week. No crises of any sort at the schools I work at and we spent our lunch hour playing music and handing out Tim Horton’s smile cookies in the highschool foyer as a little kindness initiative! It was fun and great to see a lot of the kids happy who have been having a tough time!

Now to my Things I’m Loving segment..

  • cheecha puffs

cheecha
These tasty guys are only 70 calories per 2 cups and gluten free! I saw them in my local grocery store and had to give them a try, so glad I did!

  • TABATA workouts!

For those of you unfamiliar with tabata, it’s like another version of Hight Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). You really get a lot of bang for your buck because you’re exerting crazy amounts of energy mixed with short breaks.
Prepare for a sweaty cardio session!

FOOD TODAY

Breaky was a quick and usual oneโ€ฆ Into the blender went a banana, milk, greek yogurt, creamy peanut butter and a little chocolate syrup ๐Ÿ™‚

pb choco smoothiebottoms up!

I was pretty hungry later on and then snacked on an apple ๐Ÿ™‚

Lunch time was also another super quick one because I had a lot to do at the schools and had a short lunch hour, so I went across the street to the grocery store and grabbed myself a premade chicken spring salad! Then I had some carrots and hummus on the side.

yumma

I didn’t make it to the gym this morning because for some reason I was soooo tired. It was one of those sleeps where you have super vivid dreams and when you wake up you’re majorly groggy! Know what I mean?
Needless to say as soon as the alarm went off I pressed snoozeโ€ฆ.

Which lead me to a 5 mile run after work with Tanner ๐Ÿ™‚ So it ended up being okay because the weather today was unbelievable and sunny!

My tummy was grumbling when I got in and I made myself up a little plate of things that were in my fridge..

Pretty random but those snacks usually are the best.

random snackHummus, carrots, cheeyuh puffs, there’s some pickles in thereโ€ฆ oh and 1 random BBQ chip?

HAVE A GOOD ONE ๐Ÿ™‚

Breakfast obsession

Saturday morning has arrived!

My morning routine thus far has consisted of a walk with tanner.

IMG_3903.JPG

He was happy by the end of it, I’m sure you can tell ๐Ÿ˜Š

Then came my favourite meal.. Breakfast time!! I’ve come to realize the reality of my obsession with breakfast… I know a lot of people have it as their favourite meal but I honestly think I could live off breakfast everyday every meal! It may have to do with the high carb contents of my breakfasts, but healthy complex carbs ofcourse! That’s what powers me through my days.

The combination of peanut butter and pumpkin might sound a little strange but I thought I would give it a try this morning, and I’m so glad I did!

I put 1/3 cup pumpkin purรฉe, 1 tablespoon peanut butter, a little
Almond milk, stevia into a blender and blend until smooth.
Then in a bowl I combined 1/3 cup of quick oats with 1/3 cup of wheat puffs.
I poured the blend over the oats and puffs and topped with some nuts and voila!

They make me happy and taste delicious ๐Ÿ˜

This will give me the energy I need for my workout later on ( I’ll keep you updated on that!)

On a side note, I also tried making pumpkin spice and cinnamon roasted chickpeas yesterday! I recommend it, it’s very simple!

Just pop these suckers on a baking sheet in an oven at 375 for 30 minutes after sprinkling them with cinnamon and pumpkin spice ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you noticed I’ve been pumpkin cray cray lately?
Can you blame me though?

Happy eatin’!
